Microchipping

At Princeton Veterinary Clinic, we strongly recommend getting your pet microchipped, as it can drastically improve the chances of being reunited should they become lost or stolen. Microchipping along with making sure your pet has updated, legible tags can more than triple the chances of your pet finding their way back home.

Microchipping is a very simple, procedure that takes just a few minutes and can be done during a regular office checkup. During the procedure, our veterinarian in San Jose uses a hypodermic needle to inject a tiny capsule, about the size of a grain of rice under your pet’s shin, usually between the shoulder blades. The pet feels no discomfort except for the shot which is similar to a vaccination shot.

The microchip will bond with the pet’s tissue eliminating shifting of the chip. The microchip contains the registers contact information which can be read by a scanner. Most veterinarian and shelters will check for this chip on a pet that was found. The chips lifespan are over 20 years. Please keep your contact information with the registry up to date, especially if you moved, change phone numbers or owners.
